Reduce Stress While Building a New Home

January 31, 2022

Purchasing a home is already high on the list of stressful things in life, and while buying a new home has plenty of perks, it also has its stressors, with more choices involved. To stay sane during the process, when building homes in Puget Sound WA on your own land or in a community, here are some tips to reduce your stress levels and make the process more enjoyable.

Obviously, you want to work with a company you can trust and Garrette Custom Homes has earned a solid reputation of being transparent in the building process, working to fulfill your goals, and creating quality homes. We try to take as much stress out of the process for you as possible, while offering you the kind of choices and options that allow you to create your ideal home.

However, when it comes to all of those choices and options in both home plans and finishing touches, it really does help everyone if you have a clear idea in advance of what you want. Two story or rambler? Traditional or modern? Owner’s suite upstairs or downstairs? Home office? Equal bedrooms and bathrooms? Open plan? Large lot? Bonus rooms for hobbies, school, or work? An overall design aesthetic? These are among the details you should be pretty clear about before sitting down with the builder and the design team. It’s fine not to have every decision made, but have a clear idea of the basics of what you want and also know what you can afford. Be crystal clear on your budget, then you can see where you can make additions or subtractions.

One of the reasons why people like to work with us is because we stay in contact so you know how things are going throughout the build. There are times, inevitably, that there will be delays, but we keep you up to date and do our best to let you know how it will affect the schedule. You should also feel free to ask questions, maybe keeping a list as they occur to you so that you fully understand the process of building a home from scratch, especially on your own land. Clear communication is vital for a home build where everyone feels more in control and understood.

And hey, go ahead and get excited as your house starts to take shape. It’s a big deal, especially to build a home that is designed with your lifestyle in mind. Each of the homes in Puget Sound WA that we build are meant to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and welcome when you finally get those keys and we hope the building process can create a similar feeling.
